Psychotherapy and trauma therapy in English
My name is Bartosz Kozak. I am a psychologist and a certified psychotherapist. I work with adults in Wrocław and online, in Polish and in English.
If you live in Poland and do not speak Polish, that does not have to stand in the way of starting therapy — including work on trauma, which is the larger part of my practice.
People come to my practice for very different reasons. Sometimes it is one specific event after which nothing went back to normal. Sometimes a difficulty that has been running for years, long enough to become the background of everyday life. Sometimes there is no single cause to point to — only the sense that something is not working and will not sort itself out.
All of these are reason enough.
What you can bring
- anxiety, tension, panic attacks, intrusive thoughts
- low mood, lack of energy, a sense of emptiness
- the aftermath of difficult or violent experiences, including ones from many years ago
- recurring difficulties in relationships and closeness
- crisis — separation, loss, illness, burnout, a major life change
- low self-worth, the feeling of being lesser or out of place
- difficulties around sexuality, desire and identity
How I work
I combine two things: a method with demonstrated effectiveness, and a classical understanding of what happens in a relationship. EMDR provides a clear, research-supported way of working with a difficult experience. Psychodynamic psychotherapy, which I trained in at Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University, makes it possible to see what repeats at a deeper level and cannot be reduced to a single memory.
Method without understanding stays at the level of the symptom. Understanding without method can run for years without visible change. I work with both.
In practice this means I do not stay silent and leave you guessing what we are doing. I say where we are, what I am proposing and why.
Specialisation: trauma
The largest part of my practice is the treatment of the consequences of difficult experiences — from single events to complex and developmental trauma reaching back into early relationships.
I completed psychotraumatology at SWPS University and more than 200 hours of training with the people who shape this field: Bessel van der Kolk, Janina Fisher, Dolores Mosquera and Anabel González.

The first step
The first meeting is a consultation. It does not commit you to therapy — it exists so that we can both check whether this is the right place for you.
